ASU’s Sparky Injuries Councilman David Schapira

ASU’s Sparky Injuries Councilman David Schapira

Written by Zanes Law

It was supposed to be all in good fun at Friday night’s Sun Devil football game, but the rambunctious actions of “Sparky” the ASU mascot put a Tempe city councilman in the hospital!

Councilman David Schapira was just three weeks away from fully recovering from back surgery when Sparky jumped on him in a celebratory fashion…

Now, Schapira struggles to even walk. His left leg is rendered nearly useless because the pain in his back is so excruciating…

Un oh… It sounds like Sparky got a little out of hand…

Councilman Schapira said that he was shocked as he was just posing for a picture when he suddenly felt something on his back!

Oh Sparky. Down boy!

Schapira, who was just about recovered from a back surgery, still needed a little help getting around with a cane but certainly nothing like he does now.

KOLD reported that Councilman Schapira even had a cane that night of the game but had handed it to his wife for the photo op.

Sparky’s eccentric moves cost the councilman a torn muscle in his lower left back in the exact location of where he had surgery for a herniated disk nearly three months ago.

Schapira’s wife immediately noticed something was wrong as she snapped a picture of the councilman with Sparky clinging to his back.

Although Schapira says he’s not upset but rather frustrated, he has another long journey to recovery once again. Thankfully this did not require another surgery.

School officials released a statement that read in part, “ASU sincerely apologizes for Sparky’s excessive exuberance. We have offered our fullest assistance and cooperation in getting his bills paid, and we wish him a speedy recovery.”

Well Wildcats, Wilbur and Wilma… what can we learn from this?

No pouncing on people at the games!

14-Year-Old Boy Dies After 2 Energy Drinks.

I have never been a fan of energy drinks. I am more of a “coffee-black” type of guy.

When I read about energy drinks potentially harming people… it didn’t surprise me.

In fact, a recent article stated that  a 14-year-old boy died after 2 energy drinks.

My heart goes out to the family.

Woman Records Herself Drunk Driving on Periscope

Woman Records Herself Drunk Driving on Periscope

I’ve seen our marketing team recording numerous things for Periscope, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook.. did I miss any?

It seems like the phone is always out- but for good reason, of course.

When I came across an article about a young woman live streaming/recording herself drunk driving on Periscope- I nearly lost it!

The video and the woman’s comments are quite disturbing.

Aunt Sues Her Nephew

As a personal injury attorney in Phoenix and Tucson, of course, I have reviewed all sorts of personal injuries cases and scenarios but never one like this….

I’m giving my personal injury law firm full credit for this blog post- I’ve copied/pasted the entire post below.

WARNING: Don’t Hug Your Relatives! Aunt Sues Her Nephew

Written By: Zanes Law

Well maybe not your relatives persae… Just don’t hug Jennifer Connell.

Connell is the woman suing her 12 year old nephew for $127,000 after his hug sent them both tumbling to the ground resulting in her breaking her wrist nearly four years ago.

Unfortunately for Connell, last Friday a Connecticut judge ruled that she was in fact not entitled to any money from the alleged fall.

The six-member jury in Bridgeport deliberated for about 20 minutes before reaching its decision, the Connecticut Post reported…

So it didn’t take long to decide that this aunt was not going to leave a very good Christmas present come the holidays…

On Friday, Connell had testified against Sean Tarala, who was accompanied to the hearing by his father…

The little boy appeared confused according to the local newspaper who attended the hearing.

The boy’s mother died last so this new seemingly stressful situation didn’t seem to help the healing…

The 54-year-old Connell told the court “she loved her nephew, but that he should be held responsible in the case.”

The lawsuit alleged the minor child’s “negligence and carelessness” resulted in the Connell’s injuries and subsequent losses….

No… Really stay with us… this case is actually real…

The hug occurred March 18, 2011, when Connell showed up at the Taralas’ Westport home for the boy’s birthday party.  Sean, then 8, was riding his brand-new bicycle when he noticed his aunt.

He ran toward her, enthusiastically shouting, “Auntie Jen, I love you,” according to court testimony…

Connell’s 50-pound nephew jumped into her arms, sending the two tumbling to the ground, she testified.

The fall injured her, but “it was his birthday party and I didn’t want to upset him,” she said, according to the newspaper…

Connell described her life in a third-floor Upper East Side walk-up as being “very difficult” since that day.

She claimed her social life has taken a serious hit as well…

Wait for this next line…

“I was at a party recently, and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvre plate,” Connell said.

The lawsuit stated that “a reasonable eight years(sic) old under those circumstances would know or should have known that a forceful greeting such as the one delivered by the defendant to the plaintiff could cause the harms and losses suffered by the plaintiff.”

As the verdict against her was read, Connell reportedly showed no emotion inside the courtroom…

Although the world is filled with many lawsuits on a daily basis, this one seemed to be a little more cruel and dare we say…A waste of time?
